Wedding Suit Trends

What should a groom wear on his wedding day? Let’s break it down a bit and see what the most important things are to look out for when choosing a wedding suit:

1: Purchase or Hire?

With so many options available these days, this is the best place to start. Ask yourself if you want to keep your wedding suit for posterity or if hiring is the best option for you? Cost is the big factor here as it is inevitably more expensive to purchase than to hire. Is it more important to you to keep your wedding suit or to save money by hiring? Will you get the use out of a suit or will it be left in the wardrobe as a constant reminder of that big day? Are you happy to wear the suit once and hand it back? Maybe you want to do a mix of both and buy your own suit while renting the rest? All important questions that should be the base your wedding outfit is built upon.

2: Colour

Once you have decided whether you will purchase or hire, the next most important thing to consider is the colour (or style) of your new suit. Everyone knows the classic navy suit or black tuxedo. They are classics for a reason, they will never date in photographs and look good on everyone. Do you want to do something a bit different without going too mad? Mix and match suits have become increasingly popular. Matching a different colour jacket or waistcoat can be an easy way to stand out from the crowd and keep a theme in the bridal party. Keeping it simple by accessorising with bright and stylish neckwear or buttonhole flowers can look really impressive with little effort. Or would you prefer something completely out there like a white tuxedo or red velvet jacket?

Weddings abroad are increasingly popular these days. Having an outfit that works in the local climate is an important factor to consider. While the idea of a classy three piece suit is very appealing, if the temperature is over 30 degrees, it might be better to go for something a little lighter. Linen is a great option in the heat but it doesn't work for everyone. Other light options are available. The key is to call into your local suit supplier and try different outfits on. The idea does not always match the reality!

3: Fit

The fit of your suit is something that may not be top of your thought process when it comes to choosing your wedding suit but it makes all the difference. A suit that fits well will look well, no matter what the colour or style. If it doesn’t fit well, regardless of the price or the brand, it’s not going to look good.

Finally, ask for advice, the fashion professionals you deal with are looking at different outfits every day and can help guide you to something that works for you, it’s your wedding, you have to be happy with the suit you eventually choose!
